Women should not have children after 35

by Crystal Paine

I see your mom has young children. How does she do it having babies at an older age? -Holly

I'm blessed to have just about the greatest mom in the whole world. No, she's not perfect, but she's really incredible. I always tell people that if I can be half as good of a wife and mom as she, I will be satisfied.

Yes, she has younger children. There are seven children in my family - Brigette, 27, Myself, 24, Dustin, 21, Gretchen, 17, Nathaniel, 15, Olivia, 11, and Zachary, 5. She had her last when she was 45. According to her, it was her best and easiest pregnancy. Zachary was a full 1 1/2 pounds larger than the rest of us were (weighing in at 10 lbs. 4 oz.) and so her delivery was a bit more difficult than the others due to his size, but she sprung back from it faster than her few previous deliveries. She also gained the least amount of weight and felt the best she ever had. My mom is very disciplined in eating good, exercising, and taking care of herself. She is especially conscientious about such things while pregnant. I think this has helped to contribute her healthy pregnancy with Zachary.

My mom will be the first to tell you that having a wide age range and more than the average amount of children is a lot of work. But, she also says she would never trade her job for anything else. She and my dad find so much joy in having younger children in their "old" age. It keeps them youthful, fit, active, and keeps them from ever having a dull moment! Another added plus is how much my younger siblings get to enjoy Kathrynne. They treat her like their own little sister or daughter and definitely take their roles as aunts and uncles very seriously! We often receive notes in the mail from them to Kathrynne, or a homemade book of animal pictures. When we travel to visit them, they all "argue" over who gets to hold Kathrynne, play with her, read to her, dress her, teach her, and so forth. What a joy it is to see them investing so much in her life.

I love this quote:

Women should not have children after 35.
Really... 35 children are enough.
