Frugal Fridays: A sofa makeover

Since we don't have it in our budget to buy new furniture right now but our used $100 living room sofa/chair set was getting quite worn and I was tired of the blue, I decided to get creative.

The blue sofa before. (Not the best picture, but at least you get the idea.)

And afterwards.

We bought matching suede slipcovers off eBay from the Sure Fit slipcover outlet store. They were brand new and less than half the retail price. When my sister was here this week, she made matching pillows to accent the sofa and chair from some clearance fabric we found at the fabric store. All of this was done for about a third of the cost of buying a new chair.

Oh and the wall-hanging I got for $25 at BigLots! It matches everything perfectly.

Great idea! I love the pillows too; small accents can make such a difference!

Wow! Looking good! Your sis did a great job with the pillows and the picture really ties everything together. Now it's all ready for the baby's first spit up or diaper bypass on it. ;-D

Looks wonderful, Crystal! And so timely! I might just do it for our living room furniture too.

The sofa looks really great! I have been wondering what to do about our well-loved sofa. I'll have to show the ebay link to DH! Thanks!

It looks great! How do you keep them looking nice? I got a SureFit off e-bay, and ended up selling it because I could never get the thing to stay on and look halfway decent for very long! I would love to hear tips, because my couch is getting a bit ratty and I don't have the money to buy a new one right now. :)

You did a really good job with that! I know that it wouldn't look nearly as nice for me.

BTW, this is only my second Frugal Friday and I couldn't find the Mr. Linky for this meme at the Mr. Linky site. Can anybody advise me about that?

Great idea. I desperately need to do this for our couches in our living room. They are so comfy, but the color/pattern is so . . . well, UGLY. LOL
Thank you Crystal for sharing this idea.

I bought a slip cover from Sure Fit for our love seat. I love the color and the fabric, but it doesn't fit the shape of our sofa quite right, so I constantly have to adjust it. I'm thinking about trying to make a slipcover, but I'm not sure if I'm that ambitious :)

Looks great Crystal! Maybe you could add a lace doylie (SP!!!) on the back of the couch...that would tie the middle of it to the pretty pillows on the ends. :-) (Dollar Store!!)

Those slipcovers look great! The ultrasuede is so soft and easy-care, too.

You can tell I've been out of town because I was so excited to remember Frugal Friday...only it was Saturday!

It looks good...bright and airy, even with the brown. It's always fun to decorate, especially when it's done frugally!

Wow, they look fantastic, what a difference! And you have saved so much money as well. Your sister did a great job with the cushions too, they're lovely!
