Frugal Fridays: A few good deals
Just a quick Frugal Friday post this week mentioning a few good deals...
Walgreens and CVS both have L'Oreal Vive Pro Shampoo and Conditioner on sale Buy 1, Get 1 free this week. This wouldn't be such a great deal except there was a coupon in most newspaper inserts last Sunday nationwide for Buy 1, Get 1 free on this same product (only the new Nutri Gloss variety, though). Guess what? Combine the coupon with the sales at either store and you get two free bottles of some pretty good shampoo/conditioner (at least, I like the stuff!). If you can get ahold of more than one of these coupons, well, that's even more free shampoo and conditioner!Blog reader, Miriam, wrote that her local Wal-Mart currently has spiral notebooks for $0.10 each. I'm not sure if this is nationwide or not, but it might be something to check out.
And last of all, Carrie alerts us to the fact that Wild Oats has all their organic lettuce on sale for $0.99.
Anyone else found any good deals recently you want to share?

Wow, very neat thanks so much for the info on the shampoo!
Have a blessed weekend!
And I just bought a huge bottle of shampoo at Sam's tonight. It will be a while before I run out!
Unfortunately I am sensitive to many shampoos, but I'm all over the lettuce sale!
I am envious of all of the coupons you get in the U.S.! We don't have nearly as much of that in Canada, especially in the area I live in. (Half the time cashiers here have no idea what to do with a coupon!) Take advantage of it for me!! :)
Thanks for another great Frugal Friday post!
I love all the money saving tips. It is a great service.
Thanks for the frugal inspiration Crystal! Happy Friday!
I wish I could get some of that free shampoo... :-( I've been reading about it all week. Unfortunately, my area didn't have the B1G1F coupons. :'-(
Thank you Crystal.
Free is my favorite word! I can't wait to try a new shampoo.
This is my first carnival post. I found you via Stephanie's (Stop the Ride) blog. :)
Crystal,
So are you saying you could go to Walgreens, use the coupon from the paper, buy 1 bottle of shampoo, and get 2 free?
Hey that's great - that's the shampoo my daughter uses! Thanks!
I would never have thought to combine a coupon with a sale. Great tip. I never clip coupons but maybe I need to start.
Melissa: You shouldn't have to pay anything but tax (and if you do the ECB program or the Walgreens rebate program, you shouldn't have to pay any money out of pocket because you'll be using a gift card or ECBs for the tax money). How it works is that you would buy 2 bottles of shampoo/conditioner. The stores gives you one for free with their sale and that will automatically be taken off when you check out. Then you will use your coupon to get the other one free - this will be free from the manufacturer and the store will be reimbursed for this.
If you can get your hands on more than one coupon - ask your neighbors, your husband's co-workers, your relatives, etc. you can get even more free shampoo/conditioner!
Oh and just so you know: This is perfectly ethical. In fact, the stores have planned to run this deal like this - they are trying to create buzz for this new product - in the CVS ad it says right on this product to "look for coupons for this product in Sunday's paper." So yes, part of the marketing plan for this product was for the company to give away a whole lot of bottles of this stuff. I won't complain about that! :)
Thanks for clarifying, Crystal. Off I go to Walgreens! :-)
I just came back from CVS and got $20.00 (give or take a few cents) of shampoo FREE! I plan on sharing it with my two daughters. I also got some stuff from their dollar days bin that was marked down to 50 cents each. I am a happy shopper today. *THANKS*
Carla
Yay! It worked! I got one bottle of shampoo and one of conditioner without paying a cent (I live in a sales-tax-free state). Thanks for posting this, Crystal. I had never known before that a store BOGO and manufacturer's BOGO could be combined. Guess I figured it was too good to be true, but now I know better! ;-)
The link above for Theresa is wrong, there's an extra S before substance

De-lurking to let you know that the Vive line is 99% identical to a $20 a bottle line we carry in the salon I worked at! Just repackaged (Kerastase)
My Walgreens refused to give me the shampoo for free. The cashier said she couldn't do it, since the second one rang up at $0.00
Should I ask for the manager? Anybody else have problems with this??
Anonymous: Every once in a blue moon a cashier at Walgreens will give you a hard time with coupons - usually because the cashier does not understand how coupons work. I usually just have to explain to them how it works, that it is legal, and that their store gets reimbursed for the $$ plus some by the manufacturer. This usually works but if it doesn't seem like explaining cordially is going to do the trick, I'll just go to another store. I always want to be a good testimony and causing a big problem is not going to be doing that.
Great tip! They had L'Oreal Vive shampoos at our local Dollar Tree this week. They also had a ton of fancy salon products that were regularly $16 retail there. I was so excited! Blow dry cremes, straightening serums, and loads of shampoo. I couldn't believe what a good deal that was!
I wish I had a CVS !!! (jealous)
This is the first time to participate in Frugal Fridays and I feel a bit out of the loop. Hope I did it right, Crystal!
Just wanted to share great buys at Wal-mart on school supplies. I forgot to include that with my name on the list though. Sorry!
Blessings,
Theresa or since there is another Theresa spelled the same way perhaps I should go with Mrs. Robert Gould! :-)
mom to six and another on the way
My Walgreens only had 2 Vive conditioners left by the time the paycheck came in today, but I did get both those bottles for free.
Kroger had the same stuff on sale, somy other B1G1F and two $1 off coupons got two more bottles of Vive for a total of $2.
Then, at Walmart, they had Pantene conditioner marked down to $2 from the usual $3.97. Using a coupon from a few Sundays ago of buy 3 Pantene products, get $5 off, I got three more bottles of conditioner for $1.
All told, 7 bottles worth about $30 for $3 -- less than what I would have paid for 1 bottle before I started couponing. I won't have to buy conditioner for a little while. :)
Crystal-
Thanks for explaining how the "buy 1, get 1 free" sales combined with a "buy 1, get 1 free" coupon works. I didn't get the shampoo coupon you listed here, but I see many other deals like that and have never realized I could use those coupons with the sales. Thanks so much for all your coupon, rebate and ECB explanations. It really has been a help to me.:-)
LizzyKristine: I just wanted to make a quick comment on your transactions since I want to always encourage people to use coupons in the correct way, not fraudulently. You didn't know this, I'm sure, but you can only use one manufacturer's coupon per item. You can stack store coupons and manufacturer's coupons, but you cannot stack manufacturer's coupons. Therefore, using a B1G1 manufacturer's coupon in conjunction with two $1 manufacturer's coupons is really not ethical coupon usage since that is 3 manufacturer's coupons on 2 items. Unless, of course, one of these was a store coupon.
I am not saying this to in anyway discourage you in your couponing (and I'm sure you didn't realize this if you did use 3 manufacturer's coupons!), just to mention it because my desire is to encourage women to always be careful to follow the rules and coupon limits when bargain shopping! Many people do not realize these things when first starting out so I thought I should mention it for all the couponing newbies here.
Great job on this deal, everyone!
Heads up about coupons at Walgreens. You SHOULD NOT be able to use the coupon with the B1G1 free. Because you are only buying 1 and Walgreens is giving you one for free. Also if you do a Buy1Get1 free deal..you can only use a manf. coupons on ONE item. Since you are not buying the other. I have done it the other way and if the register takes it then it takes it. But if it beeps then that is why. The manager will tell you the same thing I just did. I am a Walgreens employee
I did get the free shampoo at CVS. Gave one to mom and kept one.
