Frugal shopping fun!
Just for fun, I snapped a picture (click to enlarge) of our loot from our Kroger shopping trip today. I'd have you guess how much we spent, but, since most of you already know our grocery budget ($35/week) and I posted about some of the deals a few days ago, some of you would probably guess pretty close to what we spent. We did four transactions - to make the most of the deals - and spent around $30 total. We also got back a $6 off our next purchase of meat coupon for purchasing all the Hamburger Helpers, so I suppose you could say our total was closer to $24.I didn't have to purchase much in the way of staples or fruit and vegetables, since our cupboards, refrigerator, and freezer are well-stocked with recent good buys, so I just hit the best deals this week. We'll probably end up giving away most of the boxed food, since we eat very little processed food. But when it's free or almost free, I can't help but buy it. I can always find someone in need who can use the extras. I love having plenty to be able to share when the need arises. Just another benefit from being a frugal shopper!

Great job!
I do not want to rain on your parade, but have you considered making your own "Helper Mixes?" They are healthy (contain less sodium) and often less expensive. I started doing this about 10 years ago and my family actually likes them better!

Ruth- We actually never buy Hamburger Helper unless I can get it for free or pennies since we don't eat much processed food at all around here. You can't really beat free, though, so when I can get processed food of that sort for free I'll "buy" it to give away to others or to use every once in a blue moon if I need to whip up something in a real hurry. I did make sure to get the ones with no artificial flavoring in them - the less chemicals, the better! :)
WOW! You got so much for so little!!!!
Thanks for sharing your sale finds! Share what you find often!!!
Well, I think the picture of your little helper is quite cute. :)
Wow!
I know you shared your couponing tips, and as a beginner coupon shopper I am doing well, but not this well.
Could you possibly share more detailed info on how you do so well? I want to do much better in this are a but am really struggling.

Crystal--I still don't know how you do it.
We are seriously limited in our town with only two grocery stores. One is super-inflated prices, and the other is a discount store that doesn't take cupons. Walmart *may* arrive here sometime, but who knows when. No Krogers. One Sam's club but I can't see spending $40 on membership when I haven't figured out if I will even save that much!
The cupons I have found in the papers are never for anything that we would actually eat or use!
This is so frustrating to me! What am I missing???
How amazing! $35/week!! It was just me and my husband and we would spend way more than that. You go girl!
I really love your blog and completely agree with your point here, BUT that is the most unhealthy grouping of groceries I have ever seen! It is possible to feed large families inexpensively and healthy at the same time.
Of course, Allison - that's why I hesitated to post it lest someone think that was actually what we were eating this week. :) Rest assured, we have our cupboards stocked with plenty of nutritious food.
Mmm...Hamburger Helper! I don't care if it is unhealthy or not, I LOVE eating it! Food like that won't hurt ya if you aren't relying on them EVERY night. Way to go Crystal!!
Oh, btw. I still wish I had a Kroger nearby. I really dislike Pick N Save now. And the store that I was going to that also doubled coupons ISN'T anymore. *sigh* Guess I'll just be an Aldi girl...I know they appreciate my business! :)
Great shopping:)
I try to eat healthy too, but sometimes free is free.
I have to say that this sweet woman shared some of her excess with us and it was such a sweet encouragement!
Keep up the good work!
Lizzie
