Pondering...
Question: Do you make New Year's Resolutions? Why or why not?
No, this is not a trick question or a question with a right or wrong answer necessarily, it's just something I've been pondering in moments of quietness (which are a little few and far between right now!) the past few days and thought it would be enlightening to bring up for discussion here. I will hopefully share more on this in a few days - once I've collected my thoughts in a more orderly fashion!

No I don't. I don't think I ever have. I really don't have a reason. I just don't bother.
I have made New Year's resolutions in the past. Most of the time the resolutions I made had to do with my walk with the Lord or diligence in some area of my life. I can usually stick to my resolutions for a few months, but then my resolve fades away. :( I suppose I should make a resolution this year to stick with my resolutions throughout the whole year! :)
I make goals I'd like to see accomplished during the year. If it happens, great ... if not, no biggie.
I've never really made an "official" New Year's resolution, but when I read Anna Sofia's suggestions for New Year's resolutions, I decided to make some changes in the upcoming year. I have a link to the article on my blog; it's a great reminder of the things we should be doing!
Good Morning!
I no longer make traditional resolutions. But I do use this as a time to focus on things I am working on but not "there" yet, such as I am disappointed with my prayer life, it seems so scattered since I became a mommy, I still pray, of course, but it seems so disjointed. Maybe it is just a part of adapting, I don't know, but i know I want to give it more focus. I want to focus more on my daughter's schooling as she is ready for more.
I also use it as a time to look at all my unfinished projects...yikes.

I don't really make resolutions, but I do think about things that I have done over the past year and things I want to try to do differently next year. Mrs. Cat (from Making It Home magazine) had a WONDERFUL idea. She had everyone pick out three things they want to learn in the new year. (you can visit my site to see what I picked and how I plan on doing it AND to get a link to her blog).
Usually, I don't. But this year I feel that the Lord is laying on my heart to set some goals for 2007. I plan to think and pray about those goals and post them on my blog by New Year's Day.
Crystal, I'm sorry to hear about all of the upheaval and uncertainty going on in your life right now. Aren't you glad that we have a God who never changes, Who is the same yesterday, today, and forever? Whenever things are crazy around me, I try to rest my mind and heart in that promise. Praying for you and your family!
I never have! I like to think of things I would like to do in the coming year, but find myself disapointed and not reaching my goals.
No. I have in the past, and I usually forget/ just have no will power. Its like working out for your wedding and then dropping that habit like a hot potato the second you're married....
It has to be a life adjustment, not just an attempt at whatever, in my case. ;)
I always make about 10 New Years resolutions. I discovered about 3 years ago that if you make lots, you end up keeping 1 or two!
I posted a list of my New Years resloutions at:

Crystal,
No I do not make New Year's resolutions. I figure that I won't keep them so why should I set myself up for failure.
I'm praying that all goes well with you.

Less New Year's Resolutions, more goals for the coming year. I know where I want to have grown and what I want to have achieved in the next year so setting SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, tangible) helps me to keep to them and to see how I can work towards them.
Looking forward to your own thoughts.
Here's a good article on it:

I was just discussing this with friends the other day. I haven't made resolutions for a few years, but have never written down exactly why. I "ponder" things along the year and just try to obey what I know is God's will for me already. God's in control and has the power, not me lol.

For the past 2 years I have made New Years resolutions, which have been based around my walk with God. I usually spend New Years Eve remembering and writing down all that has happened during the past year and writting my hopes, dreams and resolutions for the year ahead, then I spend time praying about the past year and the year ahead and dedicating it all to God Will and placing it in his hands. Hope the move goes well.
I saw on a church sign the other day, "God doesn't want a resolution, He wants repentance."
A good thought!
Hi,
I have in the past made out very specific resolutions with goals numbered out under each resolution. (I am a list maker!) HOWEVER -- this has never worked. The lists are nice and I like to make them -- but I don't follow them.
This year I am making ONE umbrella goal for all areas of my life:
To be more responsible.
I want to be more responsible in my walk with the Lord, with finances, mothering, cleaning and organizing, reading, being more healthy, etc.
I am hopeful that this will work for me!
And btw, I LOVE fresh flowers!

Generally, I don't, but I've found that, this year, I am going to make a few. They're pretty typical- lose some weight, use my time better, etc. I'm building a MOTH schedule for our family that I hope to put in place any day now. These are changes that are necessary no matter what day it is. It just happens to be New Years...
Resolutions are made after we examine our lives and hearts. We need to continually be "transformed by the renewing" of our minds. Self-examination should be a daily thing... spurring us on to greater love and works. New Year's resolutions to me always seemed to be a superficial way of doing something we should be doing daily in our walk with the Lord.
Don't but used to; over the years of God growing me in grace it was that the list of "I will or want to do or know God would have me do this or that" ended up being a list of things worked in my own strength...or more a list of my successes and failures when the year came nearer to a close. It tended to come between the Lord and my being His workmanship and became more and more burdensome than blessing. Am thinking that rather than listing what "I" resolve maybe it should be more the simplicity of being sensitive to what He has laid on the heart to obey but should be a daily and moment-by-moment thing??? Not said to be a negative to others, please. :-)
This article read today after I posted a little blog comment(found reads by Oswald Chambers for the beginning days of January blessings...yes, read more than the first day.) is on spot concerning New Years Day and resolutions in regards to believers.
A New Year's Top Ten List(Part 1)

My New Year's for my spiritual life is to read the Bible in a year. This is one of the things on the list of a new Christian, I guess.
Do, please, take time to read the 70 amazing resolutions of Jonathan Edwards shared in
A New Years Top Ten(Part 2).
I had never read these before, have you? Does gratitude gently flood your being with awareness that the Lord is ever resolved of our being His workmanship for His glory? His Word is forever settled in Heaven; God is good.
Joyce :-)
