Your civic duty

As most of you know, Jesse and I try to be as politically active as possible. I know not everyone is able to be actively involved in politics, but this is one area God has really given us a passion to make a difference in. We love to support conservative, Godly candidates with likeminded values. Although we can't always do a lot, we do as much as we can each election cycle. This time around, we've attended rallies, passed out literature, prayed wholeheartedly, and personally talked to as many people as we can encouraging them to take the time to vote.

We went to a political rally for conservative Gubernatorial candidate, Jim Barnett, on Saturday. It was fun to get to meet him in person for the first time.

Though this is not a Presidential election year, this election is very crucial to the direction of our nation. If you are a registered voter in the U.S., please take time next Tuesday to vote. And please encourage your relatives, friends, and neighbors to do the same. I've made it my personal goal to encourage 25 people to vote. If each of you did the same, think of the impact that could make!

For those who live in Kansas, I especially implore you to vote. There are some very Godly men on the ballot this year who are in extremely tough races. Each and every vote makes a difference. Take the time, make the time, to vote. The future of our state and this nation depends upon the leaders we elect today. If you are unsure of who to vote for in Kansas, this website has a lot of helpful information on conservative candidates. If you want to make things even easier for yourself and you live in Kansas, send in this application by November 3, and you can advance vote from home. Jesse and I have found this to be so simple and easy to do - you have no excuse not to vote! Just be sure to actually vote as soon as you get the form in the mail so that it gets done in time. For those not in Kansas, check your secretary of state's office for information on advanced voting. Do it soon, though, because the deadline is probably almost up.

Also, for those of you in Kansas, some of the conservative candidates are going on a state-wide bus tour starting tomorrow morning. If you would like the chance to meet some of these men and hear them speak personally, just email me and I'll send you the details. In addition, President Bush will be making a stop in Kansas on Sunday afternoon in support of Congressman Jim Ryun. If you are interested in attending the event, it is free, but you have to get tickets. Email me for more information.

Hi,

Every election I grumble that because I am not a citizen I cannot vote here, and because I am not a resident of my home country I cannot vote there. My family has no political voice, and at the risk of starting a debate, lately illegal immigrants have more of a political voice that we do because we are here legally and no one helps to amplify our voice. (And we would only be here legally as we strongly believe in upholding the law of the land).

Oddly enough, I envy people who have the privilege to vote, and wish that we had that privilege too! Oh well, 4 more years and we can apply for citizenship, so hopefully just one more presidential election and then we will be able to vote!

I would echo your encouragement for families to use the political voice they have by voting and NOT take it for granted!

Great post and thank you for being a good steward of citizenry. Oooh...you're in Kansas. You are so right! This is an especially crucial state for conservatism because of the so-called "reproductive rights" industry there.

Please ladies, do take the time to vote. There's too much at stake to let inconvenience or apathy get in the way.

Thanks for encouraging us to exercise our rights to vote! Since I'm working the election on November 7, I advance-voted this past week. I hope your post encourages many to vote in this upcoming election.

I just discovered the voting early by mail and I'm proud to say I've already voted! And I wish I could be in Topeka on Sunday!

I have a strong opinion that people should vote. I also think that people should know why their voting. What are the issues. Don't just vote for a canidate because someone tells you to.

Unfortunately, in the state I live in, we don't have a lot of conservative canidates to choose from. None of the canidates are pro-life. I was thinking of not voting at all. I had written my senator when he voted against the gay marriage amendment and told him that I would not be voting for him. However, we have some serious issues on the ballot this election year such as eminent domain, taxes, ect... I guess it is better to vote for the lesser of two evils. When both of the candidates seem the same, it is hard to actually go out and vote. I don't want to support someone who has very ungodly values, but I also don't want an income tax in my state. It is very discouraging.

Zan, I totally agree that people should vote and know why they are voting. We try to meet the candidates, if possible, and get to hear them talk, in addition to finding out more about their background and record.

My husband and I usually leave at least some of the ballot blank if we don't feel in good conscience we can vote for a person. However, for us, there are always at least a few good men to vote for. Gratefully this year, there are even more than a few - which is very exciting! I think it would be extremely discouraging to live in a state like yours, though!

Gosh...I know I'm privileged to be able to vote here, but yeesh. I wish I didn't have to.

Wisconsin has a bunch of dorks running this year...their campaigning has been the worst kind of mudslinging I've ever seen ("He said this..." "He said that.."). There has been nothing but lies.

And while the more conservative candidate Mark Green has a decent platform (Family values, pro life, etc), I can't vote for him. He is not a supporter of our state's universities at all....and his whole platform is "bring jobs back to Wisconsin! Keep our college graduates in Wisconsin!" Also, I just don't think he's very honest at all. Governor Doyle certainly isn't either, but its a rock and a hard place in this state this year. I can't really vote for either in good conscience.

Ick. Maybe I'll just vote Libertarian...*Sigh* Why can't there be conservative Democrats?

Congratulations on stepping out and encouraging every registered citizen to vote! Sadly, many Christians feel that politics have no place in the church arena.

I have to toot my own horn here -- my husband is running for State Representative in our district of Michigan. If I'm allowed to put a website here, please visit www.electbrianervin.com. Yes, there's information regarding Michigan; however, there's a lot of great INFORMATION ABOUT GOVERNMENT THAT IS BENEFICIAL TO ALL VOTERS ACROSS AMERICA.

Crystal - thank you for all you and your husband are doing in your State. We are blessed to have some dedicated volunteers and we could not get much accomplished without them. I'm sure that the politicians you are assisting feel the same way about you.

We live in Michigan, and this years campaigning has been so awful! I can't tell you how many people I have heard say "I can't wait until next Tuesday is over", simply so we do have to listen to the personal attacks anymore. I think when you constantly hear bad things about every candidate, you get a little discouraged about voting.

However, with that being said, I just went to the home page the Barbara's husband and I was very encouraged with what I read. God bless!
