An opportunity to help a family in need

Many of you have become acquainted with Susan Godfrey over the last few years of blogging. She is a dear woman who has been such an encouragement and blessing to me in the short time I've known her. As some of you know, she and her family were devastated to find out a few months ago that her precious baby in her womb was diagnosed with Potter's syndrome.

Susan writes on her blog:

In June of 2006, our unborn baby was diagnosed with Potter's Syndrome, also known as Renal Agenesis. What this means, is that our baby does not have kidneys and will not survive more than just a few hours after delivery. We have decided to carry the baby to term.

You can read more here and here. September 12th is the planned induction date and these last few weeks have been especially difficult for this family. I remember experiencing something similar back when my little sister died at 27 weeks in the womb and we were waiting on a natural delivery. Usually, there is such joy and expectancy surrounding labor and delivery, but it is a completely opposite feeling when you know that your baby is going to be delivered to be placed in a coffin in the ground, not into your arms to love and care for.

As the Godfreys approach the delivery of their baby, I've been praying about something we could all do to gather around them and hold up their arms and strengthen them as they go through this heart-wrenching time. I'd like to put together a box full of verses and notes of encouragement to send to them to receive as soon as they arrive home from the hospital. And I'd like your help in this. The more who participate, the better! Let's take this opportunity to show God's love to a hurting family.

Here's how you can participate:

1. By Sunday night (September 10th), email me a short note of encouragement for the Godfreys. biblicalwomanhood{at}sbcglobal.net

You could send a verse or two, a poem, an encouraging quote, or a short little letter. Let them know you are praying for them and thinking of them during this time. If you want to format something more than a plain email and send it as a PDF or Word attachment, that would be super as well. We have a high quality color printer I can print things out on. For all the plain emails, I will print these out on nice paper/cardstock.

I will send the box off on Monday so that it arrives by Wednesday (the day after they return home from the hospital).

2. If you would rather mail something to me, I'd like to send a second package to them with more encouraging notes the following week. Please mail your notes, handmade cards, pictures, etc. to me by Tuesday of next week and I will send it out the following Monday so that they will receive another package of encouragement. My address is here.

If you have any questions, just email me: biblicalwomanhood{at}sbcglobal.net

Please pass the word along as well. Feel free to post a link to this post on your blog. I'd love to have hundreds of you all participate! Even if you don't know this dear family, think what an encouragement it would be to you if you were going through something like this and received notes of encouragement from dozens of people you didn't know!

Also, please pray - Dandelion Seeds is hosting a 48-hour prayer chain to uphold them during their time before, during, and after the delivery. Please consider committing to a time slot to lift them up before the Lord. More information here.

Update: We've had some inquiries as to whether it was possible to help out financially. I know that the Godfreys do have a number of financial needs but I did not want anyone to feel like they needed to send money or that I was soliciting financial donations for them. However, if you feel God laying it upon your heart to help in this regard, please email me.

Hi Crystal,

Thanks for coming over to my blog and letting me know about this. I'm so encouraged to see how the blogging community is rallying around this family. I'll definitely be sending something for you to pass on to them.

I hardly know Susan, but last night while I was praying for them I just started weeping (and the tears are starting up again as I type). I just can't imagine how hard this is for them. I wish there was more we could do........

Hi Crystal,
I would like to send a note and also a jpg image of the picture of the baby/flower if you could please print it out to include. I signed up over at the Dandelion blog for prayer time. I feel so bad for Susan. She is such a testimony of faith, isn't she?

Hi, Crystal. I have lost twin girls at 32 weeks of pregnancy, so I know the pain of losing a baby. It is wonderful that so many are praying for Susan and her family during this terrible time. I have added a link to Amy's Dandelion Seeds to my blog and will link to this one. I would like to do a personalised gift named after the baby, so I will email it to you to print out and give after the birth. Thank you for the opportunity to do something further for them. Love and blessings, Glenys

I cannot imagine...thank you for finding a way to encourage and uplift this family during a time when only the Giver of Life can reveal gracious relief from their pain. May one of the ways He does so is through the words of encouragement of His beloveds.
