Morning musings and business special!

The sun is rising, the birds are singing, and the house is quiet. Jesse has been studying so hard that when our alarm went off at 4 a.m. this morning and he started to get up, I told him it was a holiday and he should sleep in. He decided to heed his wife's encouragement, for which I am thankful.

Even though it is a holiday, our day won't be much different than everyday but Sunday has been for the last 5-6 weeks and will be for the next 3 1/2 weeks - Jesse reads his Bible, we read God's Word together as a family and then he studies, studies, studies, eats, studies, studies, studies, eats, studies, studies, studies, studies, studies. Yesterday he did take a few breaks to blog, but that was about it. I fell asleep around 9:30 p.m. (when you get up at 4 a.m., you get tired pretty early in the evening!) and he was still up and at it and hoping to get a few more hours in at least. Bar study is pretty close to torture in my mind, yet he handles it so well. I think I would have given up a long time ago. I could never handle 8-12 hours of intense study a day for weeks.

We usually spend July 4th with our families and we will miss that this year. But it is for a good cause. We are hoping to maybe have a chance to go to the lake and have a picnic dinner and watch the fireworks tonight, if Jesse is able to finish all the studying he needs to get in today. I'm at least going to try and cook a nice big breakfast and have a special lunch and dinner planned - if I can get Jesse to take a break and eat it! He so easily forgets to eat these days! I can't imagine how he'd survive if he were single.

I just spent a very refreshing time in God's Word and prayer. Since the beginning of this year, I've been slowly reading through the Bible. I'm in Numbers currently (I did say "slowly" didn't I?) and was so challenged by Numbers 14 this morning. If you have a moment today to stop and read this chapter, I think you will find it convicting as well. How often we are like the Israelites. God does so many great and wonderful things for us and we quickly forget and murmur and complain, lose heart, and try to take matters into our own hands. This repeats itself time and time again and like verses 41 and 42, we still don't learn.

I wrote about verses 41 and 42 in my journal:
How many times do we think we've heard from the LORD on something and so we just run ahead with it without prayerfully seeking the LORD for direction? I do this multiple times in a day, I fear. Or, worse yet, I don't even consider whether something is God's Will, I just do it!
And yet, the Lord is so patient and gracious and longsuffering with me!

Well, that was all very rabbit-trailish (or, shall I say, typical Crystal!). What I really was on here to write was that because July 4th is pretty much going to be a regular day at our home which means our business work goes on, even if most other businesses are closed down today, I thought I'd run a special for today only. So, if you order from us today and type in "July4" in the checkout on our shopping cart, you will get 20% off your order!

Can I make a suggestion that if you haven't gotten your copy of our newest book Handmaidens of the Lord yet, now would be the time to order and get it at a rock bottom price? Not only is it already $3 off the retail price (until Thursday), but it will be an additional 20% off!

For all those of you having special Independence Day celebrations, I hope you have a lovely day with family and friends. And don't forget what this day is all about. Freedom isn't free.

Wow - just reading the word study that many times gives me a headache!

"I can't imagine how he'd survive if he were single."

He wouldn't. God gave him you. ;)

I'm working on reading through the Bible in 30 days. Today is day 15 so I'm 1/2 way done!! Numbers did have quite some interesting passages/verses, which was very welcome after all the 'numbering'!

Happy 4th of July to you! - Hope Jesse gets the studying done so you can go watch the fireworks.

Sounds like your day is about like ours :D Well, minus the "study" part and put in "work" for Joshua (he's doing a website for a Biblical Hebrew Scholar right now--how exciting!) :D

I was deeply impressed when I read Numbers 14 too. Thanks for the reminder to keep seeking the Lord for a grateful heart instead of a complaining one!
